With a new president now sworn in, I confirmed that a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization like Doctors of Nursing Practice, Inc. could address politics, policy, and the dynamics that influence those that are a part of this organization. The limitation, according to the IRS is that the non-profit organization will not participate in or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate or public office. Charitable non-profit organizations may not provide a campaign contribution to a candidate for public office.
As a non-profit organization, Doctors of Nursing Practice, Inc. and its subsidiary, the Academy of Doctoral Prepared Nurses, and the Journal of the Academy of Doctoral Prepared Nurses have been silent during the recent campaign and election. Now we see changes initiated by the new administration starting January 20, 2025 and see that our time of silence is over.
Mission: The mission of Doctors of Nursing Practice, Inc. and the Academy of Doctoral Prepared Nurses is to improve healthcare outcomes by promoting and enhancing doctoral-prepared nursing professionals.
The organization is dedicated to:
- Providing accurate and timely information
- Supporting, developing, and disseminating professional practice innovation
- Collaborating in a professional manner that demonstrates universal respect for others, honesty, and integrity in communications and
- Responding with open discussions and dialogues that promote the evolution of advanced nursing practice and the growth of the DNP degree.
We anticipate a series of what we hope to be informative discussions related to the changing political landscape with hopes that our near- and long-range future will support our collective mission of improving healthcare outcomes for our patients and patient populations.
