Jacquelyn Svoboda, DNP, WHNP-C
Dr. Jacquelyn Svoboda is a full-time assistant professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB-SON) and a women’s health nurse practitioner in the OB/Gyn department at UTMB. Dr. Svoboda serves as the co-director on a Nursing Innovation Grant Program award through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. She is also the project director for an innovative student led service-learning project advocating for incarcerated pregnant women. Dr. Svoboda is the founder and president of a local service non-profit, Friends Thru The Fight, which provides financial and other services to local breast and gynecology cancer patients.
Purpose
The purpose of this Quality Improvement (QI) project is to create standard of care improvement through implementation of a Breastfeeding Friendly Algorithm for Incarcerated Mothers in the inpatient hospital setting at the health system hospital in Texas. The overall aim of the project is to increase overall breastfeeding initiation rates for incarcerated mothers. Objectives include conducting breastfeeding education sessions for the medical and nursing staff; implementing an evidence-based algorithm and assessing pre- and post-intervention breastfeeding initiation rates for incarcerated mothers delivering at the institution to determine effectiveness.
