I have been interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of ChatGPT. I know ChatGPT can plagiarize and not use credible sources. But is there a place for AI? Could it be helpful at all? Or used to help summarize difficult to understand articles? Do you think it can help with our DNP education? Or only hurt it because of the obvious issues of possible misinformation being spread?

I know ChatGPT is a trending AI tool that performs many specific natural language processing tasks. Many people utilize this tool to ask questions, summarize articles, and many more. As you mentioned, it may be harmful because of the possibility that it can provide wrong information to us, but I think the opposite. I think that Chat GPT can answer a wide variety of questions as well as a knowledgeable person most of the time. The data set used for training ChatGPT consists of more than 145 million dialogues scarped from various social media and online knowledge bases. Also, it cleans up such text data as spam, offensive language, low-quality content, and so on. I feel like a bigger issue of using ChatGPT consists of ethical issues, such as asking ChatGPT for article writing, homework assignments, or plagiarism. But if we utilize this search engine correctly, I believe that it’ll be a better gain for us than harm.

There are always ways that the healthcare system can improve and it makes one think how utilizing technology could improve patient outcomes. Telehealth and other technology have been used to help improve patient outcomes and increase access to health care. ChatGPT and AI are relatively new technologies that have become more prevalent and healthcare workers are beginning to wonder if it is necessary to include them in the healthcare system. As a DNP student, there was an assignment in one of my classes on asking ChatGPT to quiz you on a nursing topic to help quiz for material that was learned in class. This was a great way to integrate ChatGPT technology into the educational system. ChatGPT can be used in this way in DNP education. ChatGPT may have yet to have credible sources, but it is a great AI tool that can be used to help quiz DNP students on educational material that they have reviewed from textbooks and lectures. I never expected a professor to use ChatGPT in this way, but after utilizing it myself, I realized that this is a good way for DNP students to use this AI tool.

It has so many benefits in regards to summarizing information to simplify complex content. An example of this would be summarizing articles and research papers thus making them more accessible and more digestible to understand large amounts of information. This also helps in clarifying key points to allow students to understand new material quickly. It also can be used as a supporting learning tool, have personally used it as a tutor to provide explanations and help me understand various topics. The fun part of AI is that it gives additional support outside the classroom by generating practice questions that can be used as a form of self-quizzing to help students prepare for exams and understand key concepts better. One downside I have noticed with AI and ChatGPT is verifying credibility. There is a risk of misinformation that can be based on outdated information. It is important to remain vigilant and to only use AI as a resource for clarification due to the risk of limiting critical thinking skills.
