Purpose/Goal

The DNP Shark Tank Deep Dive is a presentation of how one school of nursing transformed their DNP capstone model. The goal of this presentation is to share how a business-framework guided the capstone change through collaboration and partnerships with an international image consultant, health coach, and our business, art and design, liberal arts, bioengineering, and informatics and computer science school faculty.

Jennifer Embree, DNP, RN, NE-BC, CCNS

Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis

Biography

A nurse executive with many years leadership experience, Dr. Embree has directed local and system strategic planning in nursing, planned and executed patient safety initiatives, organizational development, physician and employee relations, performance improvement, and regulatory/accreditation compliance activities. A current Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Faculty Scholar, Dr. Embree is one of 14 Scholars in the 2014-2015 cohort.

Dr. Embree is active on several organizational boards:

President of the Indiana State Nurses Association

Past president and current board member of the Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives

Executive board member for the Indiana Center for Nursing (Co-Chair of the Development Committee)

President of Centerstone of Indiana’s board of directors

Board Member at Large for The Indiana League of Nursing

Dr. Embree is active as a state, national, and international speaker on lateral violence in nursing. She is the Coordinator of the MSN Nursing Leadership in Health Systems Program and DNP faculty for Leadership Practicum Courses.

Julie A. Meek, PhD, RN Contributing Author (will not be in attendance to present)

Julie A. Meek, PhD, RN was founder and CEO of The Haelan Group, a predictive modeling and health coaching company that she founded in 1995. Dr. Meek joined IUSON in 2008, quickly becoming part of the core team that developed and earned approval and grant support for the start-up and accreditation of the DNP program. Dr. Meek was awarded the IU Trustee Teaching Award in 2012. Her research interests include predictive modeling and pedagogical reform including ePortfolio, online quality standards, and the impact of service learning and reflection on student learning.

Innovative Academic-Practice Partnerships: Keys to Success

Purpose/Goal

With a focus on innovative academic-practice partnerships implemented by one college of nursing, the goal of this presentation is to share key organizational considerations, the impact of the DNP prepared nurse, strategies to promote partnerships based on reciprocity, outcomes for both academia and practice, and lessons learned.  Our purpose is consistent with the conference focus on collaboration and partnerships with academia and practice using DNP prepared professionals.

Cynthia McCurren, Ph.D, RN

Dean and Professor at Grand Valley State University Kirkhof College of Nursing

Biography

Dr. McCurren currently holds the position of Dean and Professor at Grand Valley State University Kirkhof College of Nursing since 2008. Areas of expertise are related to health policy, nursing education, practice/academic partnerships, nurse-manage health centers, and inter-professional education and practice.  This expertise is applied to leadership affecting health care at the local, state, and national levels.

 

Barbara Hooper, DNP, MSN, RN, NE-BC

Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University Kirkhof College of Nursing

Biography

Dr. Hooper is an Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University Kirkhof College of Nursing. Her areas of expertise include adult nursing and health systems leadership. Using DNP competencies, scholarship is focused on the development and implementation of a Dedicated Education Unit in a Senior Care Facility, Acute Rehab Unit in collaboration with the college of nursing.

ICD10: Success or Failure

ICD-10 rolled out in October 1, 2015.  Many practices were unprepared for this transition.  Listen as an experienced nurse practitioner and an owner of an NP-owned and operated discussed ICD10 and its impact.  Great coding and billing tips will be presented.

Wendy L. Wright, MS, RN, APRN, FNP, FAANP, FAAN

Biography

Wendy is a 1992 graduate of the Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed a family nurse practitioner post-master’s program in 1995. She is an adult and family nurse practitioner and the owner of two, nurse practitioner owned and operated clinics within New Hampshire named: Wright & Associates Family Healthcare @ Amherst and @ Concord. In addition, she is the Owner of Partners in Healthcare Education, a medical education company.
