Ana B replied to the topic The Discouragement Received From Nurse Colleagues When Pursuing DNP in the forum DNP Professional Growth 1 year, 2 months ago
Hello Avery,
Unfortunately, I have experienced this; first when getting into nursing school as a CNA, then when moving to the ICU from a Med Surg unit, and now when pursing CRNA school. I have been accepted into a LEAP program so when I finish, I will be guaranteed a spot at a CRNA school. I still struggle whether to let other coworkers know,…[Read more]

Hello Avery,
Unfortunately, I too have experienced this; when I got into nursing school, when I moved to the ICU, and now that I am pursuing CRNA school. I recently entered a LEAP program; where if I graduate, I am guaranteed a spot at a CRNA school. I currently work at the ICU unit, and I still struggle with telling people because I can feel…[Read more]

Hello Susan,
Thank you so much for your post and sharing this California AB 765 Wood Bill. As a student on the pathway to enter CRNA school with the hopes to graduate with my DNP degree, I am learning more and more of the importance of staying informed and how being involved is vital to our profession. I read through the AB 765 Wood Bill and…[Read more]

Samuel replied to the topic The Value of the DNP; Job Market Outlook/Compensation in the forum DNP Professional Growth 1 year, 2 months ago
Hi Avery,
The DNP certainly goes through more rigor than other graduate nursing degrees. However, there is not a big enough gap in practical terms as to what a DNP could do compared to an MS-NP. Now, a DNP should definitely receive compensation for roles that a master’s level nursing degree cannot achieve like leadership positions, but I do not…[Read more]

Hi Avery,
I have a different situation in my workplace. I work in a small inpatient psychiatric facility and most of my coworkers are in NP school. We are very encouraging towards each other and are encouraging our other coworkers to get started on their terminal degrees. I did notice that my personal friends who are nurses do not share the same…[Read more]

Samuel replied to the topic Earned Doctoral Degree in the forum The Controversy of the DOCTOR Title 1 year, 2 months ago
Hello April,
There is a collective feeling that certain healthcare professionals, particularly medical doctors, disdain the thought of “nurses” using the title doctor. I have an experience I would like to share. I was in nursing school working as a CNA and one of the patients started to get confused and declined a little bit. I believe a rapid…[Read more]

Wow, this is so disheartening to hear. Sadly, I believe these comments come from a bit of ignorance. As difficult as it is to hear these comments, I feel these conversations position the DNP hopeful well to inform others and take steps to change this mentality. I am pursuing a master’s degree in nursing administration and often I get the other s…[Read more]

Kristina replied to the topic Navigating the jobs search as DNP who is not an APRN in the forum DNP Professional Growth 1 year, 2 months ago
As the profession of nursing continues to grow and evolve, I can see that there is still much confusion and misunderstanding about how these roles and degrees exist and what each one can bring to the table. I would assume that administrators in academia would be slightly more aware than perhaps in the practice setting but maybe that is not…[Read more]
