Lisa started the topic Ethnic Group Hospitals in the forum Why Were Many SF Hospitals Once Affiliated With Ethnic Groups? 1 year, 5 months ago
Reading through this article, I found it so fascinating how within the San Francisco Bay area, many hospitals were founded through their respective ethnic groups. Being an immigrant myself, I found it fascinating how the trend to stay close to your ethnic group continues from a long history it has. Even nowadays, there are “bubbles” of ethnic gro…[Read more]

This was an interesting article published by WalletHub, which I enjoyed reviewing, so thank you for sharing that with us. I understand that WalletHub used various components to determine the overall ranking of the best and worst states for healthcare. I found it interesting that although Rhode Island was ranked #1 as the state with the best…[Read more]

Kevin Kim replied to the topic The Discouragement Received From Nurse Colleagues When Pursuing DNP in the forum DNP Professional Growth 1 year, 5 months ago
Hello Avery,
When mentioning the pursuit of a DNP degree I have been met with both positive and negative comments from my fellow nursing peers. More often than not it tends to be positive but I feel the role of APRNs and the idea of nurse obtaining their DNP is still fairly new within the nursing community. Nursing is consistently evolving, there…[Read more] -

Hello,
Thank you for sharing the informative document from the AACN. After reviewing the document, I was pleased to see many more DNP programs with a significant increase in enrolled students. Karen Bugaj started the topic Title of Doctor in the forum The Controversy of the DOCTOR Title 1 year, 5 months ago
I have stopped signing orders, correspondence or anything else with “CRNP” I simply sign my name “DNP”. I was the first DNP in my current organization. Everywhere I am listed with my name and “NP” as was their custom prior. I have requested and been very persistent in seeing that my name is followed by “DNP” on directories, in our EMR etc. There…[Read more]

Hi Susan! I appreciate the fact that you brought up this topic to discuss on this forum. I think it is so crucial for us to be able to openly talk about this. Personally, I believe that anyone who has put in the work to achieve and the honor of receiving an earned doctorate degree should have the right to be called “Dr.” whether it be in med…[Read more]

Hello Lisa,
Thank you for your comments. As you mention, this goes beyond those holding a DNP degree. Here is the amended bill that is moving through the legislative process https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billCompareClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB765&showamends=false

April Snell started the topic Earned Doctoral Degree in the forum The Controversy of the DOCTOR Title 1 year, 5 months ago
Nurse practitioners that have earned a doctorate degree worked just as hard earning their DNP as the Ph.D’s, DSW’s, and PsyD’s that I work with in an integrated care outpatient clinic. I have never been involved in a discussion as to whether or not to refer to a Psychologist, Doctor of Social Work, or Doctor of Psychology as any other title than…[Read more]
