Good morning Gabriela,
I find this question intriguing and quite pertinent. It hadn’t occurred to me to consider this thought regarding your question until the previous speaker brought up their idea. The thought of having “all our ducks in a row” before proceeding is undoubtedly appealing, yet pragmatically, it may not always align with reality.…[Read more] -

Hello,
How does working as an RN transition into working as an FNP? Is there difficulties in transitioning into a new role? For example, many of us who are registered nurses initially worked as a CNA at the bedside, and I know I had a hard time delegating tasks as a new graduate RN? Are there similarities in transition?

Hello Avery,
I have not had these discussions with my coworkers, in fact my manager encouraged me to pursue further education including my educator. They were positive and even motivating to say the least. It is important to surround yourself with people who are inspiring and want what is best for you. Initially, I was afraid to speak on wanting…[Read more]

Hi Gabriela,
This is a topic not discussed enough, during seminar week I spoke to a few of our classmates to address how they are managing their time with us working stull full-time yet doing schooling full-time. I know some of us are doing the part-time route but reality is that the program turns into full-time after core classes are completed.…[Read more]

Hi Alyssa,
This is a great question. As discussed during our seminar there are so many obstacles being exercised between NPs and Physicians in the practice. We discussed that NPs are precepting new grad NPs into the clinical practice because medicine can be different as our approach is considered more “nursing”. I think we are in a phase where…[Read more]

The issue of doctor title has come up in my DNP course. If this issue had not come to my attention, I would not have known that it was against the law to use the Dr. title. It is mind boggling that it has gotten to this point where there has to be a law restricting the use of the title. It is a very difficult conversation, as I can see both sides…[Read more]

Advance practice nurses especially those who encompass a DNP have an integral role in leadership. What do you think are the most valuable attributes as a DNP for effective leadership?

Doctor of Nursing Practice is the expert clinician and terminal degree for the field of nursing, therefore the best possible candidate for being involved in healthcare policy. Comment on your involvement as a DNP in policy making in your setting. Do you feel as the expert clinician, DNP should be more involved in policy making at the legislative level.

When I thought of my career in the long-term, I always thought I would go into academia later in my career. I am in a DNP Family Nurse Practitioner program, which would put me more involved in the clinical setting. However, I am learning quickly about the leadership that entails as a Doctorate prepared nurse. I wanted to pursue my doctorate…[Read more]

You ask a great question, Gabriela. Several social media sites offer support to DNP students – some even support those that are struggling academically.
I’ll share a thought from having seen many years of DNP students’ efforts: Start your chosen DNP program when all elements for success are in place. Jumping in when family, home, financial, or…[Read more] -

Hi Avery,
I completely understand your frustration and hesitation as I’ve also had similar experiences where colleagues or even friends question the value of pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP). In addition to colleagues, I hear it from family (all MD’s). It’s disheartening when our aspirations are met with discouragement rather than…[Read more] - Load More
